Heritage – One of My Best David Austin Roses for USDA Zone 10b 🌹

Heritage has been one of the best-performing David Austin roses in my garden.

I bought this rose from Pushpanjali Pranabir in 2021, tagged as DA-35. At first, I thought it was Jude the Obscure, so I was quite disappointed when it turned out to be Heritage instead. Looking back, I completely regret that disappointment because Heritage has become one of the best roses in my collection and one of the most reliable varieties for my growing conditions.

David Austin describes Heritage as a rose with a strong myrrh fragrance. However, in my garden, I have never experienced a dominant myrrh scent. Instead, I consistently enjoy a delightful blend of sweet, fruity, and citrus fragrance. Of course, the weather also plays an important role in how the fragrance develops.

In my experience, Heritage is almost pest-free, highly disease-resistant, heat-tolerant, and remarkably easy to grow. It requires very little care yet continues to perform beautifully year after year.

The blooms are perfectly cupped with delicate petals, opening in beautiful shades of shell pink to soft pink, before gradually fading to cream or almost white as they mature. The flower color also varies slightly depending on the weather, making every bloom unique.

Another feature I truly appreciate is that the plant has very few thorns, making pruning and maintenance much easier than many other roses.

Heritage is also an excellent repeat bloomer. In my garden, it blooms continuously throughout the season. I have also noticed that it grows more vigorously during summer. Today, my Heritage plant has reached a height of nearly 6–7 feet, making it an impressive presence in my terrace garden.

One of my daily routines, after sending my kids to school, is spending a few peaceful moments in my terrace garden before starting the rest of my day’s work. Walking among my roses, feeling the cool morning breeze, and enjoying their beautiful fragrance brings me a wonderful sense of peace and happiness. Those quiet moments help me relax, refresh my mind, and fill me with positive energy for the busy day ahead.

For me, Heritage is much more than just another David Austin rose. It is a rose that has taught me patience, rewarded me with exceptional beauty and fragrance, and become one of the most cherished plants in my garden.
